Jonathon “Jamie” James Pribanic
February 18, 1958 – September 6, 2018
Jonathon James Pribanic, 60, residing in Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening, September 6, 2018 at Firelands Regional Medical Center.
Born February 18, 1958 in McKeesport, PA to John Edward and Marlene (Hunter) Pribanic, Jamie graduated from McKeesport High School in 1976 and attended Toledo and Bowling Green State University for engineering.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, an avid reader and artist, and documentary film producer. He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited and could be found every fall duck hunting on the Sandusky Bay or chasing fish on Martha’s Vineyard.
Jamie was the head chef and owner of Red Gables Mesquite Grill and Jack’s Deli for over 20 years. Chef Jamie was one of the first to build a fine-dining restaurant in Sandusky with a modern menu of original recipes considered a “best kept secret” that attracted customers from all across the region. He was well known for perusing the restaurant sharing stories of his many adventures always making his guests feel as if they were part of the family. His motto was “it is always a pleasure to entertain your pallet, if you find a better steak anywhere I’ll buy it for you!” He never spent one red cent.
Known to walk his own path, his clandestine nature kept many from knowing that he spent after hours on his own inventions. However, despite all of his pursuits, family was his first love and the greatest joy in this life.
Jamie is survived by his mother, Marlene; three daughters, Athena Pribanic of Huron, Jessica (Cody) Pribanic of NV and Kennedy Pribanic of Sandusky; son, Joshua Boaz (Tara) Pribanic of Sandusky; grandchildren, Triston, Jaida, Aedon and Ares; sister, Meredith; brothers, Victor (Janet), Michael (Virginia), David (Peggy), Jeffrey (Milissa), Chris, Adam (Jennifer), Sean (Christine) Daniel (Megan), and Ernest (Leslie) Pribanic and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his father, Jonathon, Jamie is preceded in death by his nephew, Eli Pribanic.
Friends may call on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky.
In lieu of flowers anyone wishing to make a contribution to Jamie’s memory can go to publicherald.org/kennedy — all donations will be collected for his latest daughter Kennedy Leigh Pribanic’s college fund.
