People are shocked when they learn that our journalists and editors do not get paid. We’re proud to be ahead of a “new journalism” curve, but leading has its setbacks. Major foundations prefer ‘safer’ ways of making news (and revenue). To sustain our work, we rely on public funding from individuals who believe in the power of investigative journalism and documentary.

A Note From the PH Editors

If we had our way, money wouldn’t be necessary. We’re willing to work for food, shelter, and a source of electricity, but utility companies don’t barter… yet. By taking the time to read and donate, our work is ensured to stay alive by your valuable contribution.

Crowd-sourced

Since 2011, our investigations have all been publicly funded by our Members. Public donations only cover travel, reporting, and equipment expenses, which is enough to keep the gears grinding. But we also rely on members of the public for data collection, research, outreach and other activities that stretch our limited resources further and ensure that our stories are deeply rooted within impacted communities.
